Early in my career as a Marriage and Family Therapist, I remember hearing a counselor say that a client needed to “get into her body.” I hadn’t heard this phrase before, but I knew that going for a jog, taking a ballet class, and going swing dancing all felt like I was in a completely different state from when I was consulting on a case, writing notes, and doing billing and scheduling at work. Being in my body is a completely different experience than being in my head. “Get into her body” were words to attach to something I had long understood, but didn’t really think of as a thing.
