Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving. ~Albert Einstein
Surrounded by visions of weight loss, it has become to some people that moving your body is only for the purpose of changing how you look.
Einstein wasn’t really known for his physique, and he understood the importance of movement.
This quote is a translation from German on February 5, 1930 in a letter to his son Eduard. Contextually, after the adjustment for time period and language translation, it appears that he was maybe referring to movement in terms of pursuing or growing or learning.
Which is also relevant for anyone who is examining her relationship with her body.
One too many people have decided just to ignore the pain they have when it comes to how they feel about themselves physically.
Which is fine except, after 5 years pass, that pain is still there. Pretend something doesn’t bother you. After 10 years pass, that pain is still there.
Some people choose to keep moving- keep seeking growth and change, keep reading, keep pursing guidance on the concepts of acceptance, self-compassion, and self-care- and though it takes time (how long have you built up the NOT-liking-your-body? don’t you think some reversal will take a fair amount of time to unwind those messages?) it actually happens.
5 years is going to pass whether you ignore your problems or look at them and seek solutions and support.
After 10 years have gone by, do you want to feel the same as you do now? Or do you want to look back and think, “whoa- I used to feel ____… I am so glad I kept at this thing and have made improvements for myself!”
Just because something doesn’t happen tomorrow is no reason not to set yourself up to be in a happier, healthier place next month. And next year. And later on.
Also, our bodies were meant to be moving…
