Who do you look up to?
Is it someone who has the generosity and giving heart that you don’t always remember to have?
Is it a person who seems to know the right thing to do, no matter what happens?
Do you look up to people who are smarter than it makes sense for them to be, given the capacity of the human brain?
Maybe you look up to someone who brings joy or a laugh to any situation. Or maybe you look up to someone with the ability to cut the bullshit and talk about what really matters.
Is the person you most look up to paid lots of money to look a certain way, and have they employed hundreds of people over the years to make sure that they look just that very expensive and impressive way?
Is that the role model you idolize?
Quinta Brunson, writer, producer and star of Abbott Elementary, advises that, in order to like oneself the way they came in to the world: No idols.
And yes, I know idolization is an unavoidable part of human nature. People have idolized others at least since Jesus dropped, so it’s nothing new. But try doing it less, or emphasize looking up to yourself and your peers ahead of someone famous who has an entire hair and makeup team on staff. If you can manage, have no idols at all. It’s possible. ~Quinta Brunson, She Memes Well
What if the people you admired the absolute most were the people you get to talk to and laugh with and hug every day? Maybe it is time to start noticing how great the people around you are!
